Abstract
A two-chambered microbial fuel cell (MFC) was constructed using aerobic and anaerobic sludge from a sewage treatment plant as inoculums. The characteristics of pollutant degradation and electricity generation by continuous flow MFC using glucose as substrate were investigated. The results show that the electricity generation efficiency is good when graphite and nickel are used as anode in the MFC. The temperature rise to a certain extent and oxygen addition in the cathode chamber can increase MFC output voltage and open circuit voltage. When external resistance is increased, the MFC output electric current becomes smaller and smaller. The principle is in agreement with primary cell electrode.
