A Comparison between Charles and Sarah in the French Lieutenant's Woman——An Interpretation of Lonely Being in Existentialism

The French Lieutenant's Woman is a classical work of existentialism.Though the hero and heroine are from different social classes,they are lonely in physical world and mental world.Charles and Sarah are two different lonely beings,but their thoughts echo each other.Sarah is lonely because she is excluded from the mainstream society;however,her original thoughts and values enhance her image as a lonely being.Living in upper class,but actually,Charles fails to integrate into his society.It is also his thoughts and ideas toward life that separate him from the mainstream society.
