Abstract
Objective To provide reliable anatomy data by sectional anatomy and imaging scans of the orbital apex for endoscopic operation of this region to reduce its complications. Methods A CT scanning was done for 30 adult cadaveric heads. The distance and angle of the lateral deviation from anterior nasal spine to the varial structures of the orbital apex, structures and the adjacent relationship of optic canal walls and the superior orbital fissure were measured. The imaging data were compared with the sectional anatomic data of the orbital apex. Results The distance and angles of the lateral deviation from anterior nasal spine to the medial wall of the optic canal were (70.35±4.93)mm, (72.76±5.03)mm, 9.65°±1.30° and 5.44°±0.86°,respectively. The middle of the medial canal wall was the thinnest in three parts of the medial canal wall and the middle part was the narrowest among the three parts of the canal. Conclusion With the FV plane as the axial base line, the structures of the orbital apex can be located accurately with the axial and coronal CT scans.
