On One of the Characteristics of the Chinese Idioms Related to Buddhism——Combination of Sanskrit Culture and Chinese Culture

After Buddhism was introduced into China, its dictions began to combine with Chinese, and many new words and expressions including idioms came into being. There are some different ways of building those Chinese idioms related to Buddhism, such as the combination of Buddhist words and expressions with original Chinese ones, transliteration of Buddhist Sanskrit in Chinese, Buddhist dictions used by China's shamans. Among them, the combination of Buddhist words and expressions with original Chinese ones is a main means. It includes direct combination of Buddhist dictions with traditional Chinese ones, introduction of new meanings related to Buddhism into some Chinese dictions, transliteration of Buddhist Sanskrit in Chinese, and combination of the same Chinese and Buddhist dictions.
