Complications after vitrectomy in severe ocular trauma.

Objective To explore the operative efficacy, postoperative complications and their control concerning severe ocular trauma treated with vitrectomy. Methods 53 cases (53 eyes) of severe ocular trauma underwent vitrectomy and postoperative efficacy and complications was analyzed. Results Postoperative visual acuity of 38 eyes was better than before operation, but some cases developed different degrees of complications,including corneal hydrops and cloudiness, and poor healing of corneal epithelium, high intraocular pressure, retinal breaks without retinal detachment, retinal detachment, cataract,intraocular bleeding, atrophy of the eyeball, etc. Conclusion Vitrectomy of severe ocular trauma can save most injured eyeballs, and restore their visual acuity to a certain degree.However, importance should be attached to the postoperative complications and their controls in order to improve the efficacy of vitrectomy.
