Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of syphilis in recent years in Kunshan , and to provide scientific evidence for perfecting the strategies for the treatment and prevention on syphilis. Methods The information of the epidemics of syphilis from the computer disease reporting system in Kunshan during years 2004-2011 were analysed. Results 2 424 cases of syphilis were reported in the past 8 years. The average incidence of the disease was 18.09 per 100 000. The incidence of the disease showed an upward trend. The incidence of syphilis in urban areas was 28.40 per 100 000 , was and the incidence was higher than other viollages (16.18 per 100 000, P0.01). The incidence in the male and female subjects was 20.17 per 100 000 and 23.33 per 100 000, respectively (P0.01). The age of syphilis patients (61.92%) was in the range of 20~39 years old. There was no obvious associate between the morbidity seasonal change. Conclusion The monitoring program of latent syphilis should be strengthened. The propaganda and testing of STD and AIDS in the urban floating population, especially in the female population, should be increased.
