Abstract

By means of observation and comparison of the stomatal morphology as well as the stomatal density on lower leaf epidermis between tissue-cultured plantlets of strawberry and earth-cultured ones,it is shown that the size and opening of the stoma on the tissue-cultured plantlets is remarkably greater than that on earth-cultured ones, and there is no possibility for the former to close the stoma. On other hand, there is no remarkable difference in stomatal density on the lower leaf epidermis between the both plantlets, showing that the poor water-keeping capability of tissue-cultured plantlets may be due to their inability to close the stoma.
