Clinical Analysis of Correction of Angle's Class III Relationship by Extracting Mandibular Molar

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effects of the first mandibular molar extraction in the treatment of Angle Ⅲ malocclusion,and discuss the indications of mesial movement of the second mandibular molar and the methods for anchorage control.Methods: 16 Angle Ⅲ malocclusion patients with residual crown,residual roots or a large area filling crown of the first mandibular molar who rejected surgical treatment were selected.With informed consents,all the patients' first mandibular molars were extracted and all the patients were treated with the Straight-Wire appliances.Results: The extraction space of all the patients was closed with Class Ⅰ molar relationship and no mesial or lingual tipping of the second molar.The straight profile were achieved successfully.Conclusion: With the extraction of the first mandibular molars and the Straight-Wire appliances,the mild skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion can be corrected successfully and the facial profile can be improved remarkablely.
