Abstract
Objectives: To retrospectively analyse the characteristics of diagnosis and operative treatment of 63 cases of Schwannoma in the spinal canal.Methods: 63 cases, 13 of the cervical region, 30 of the thoracic region and 20 of the lumbosacral region were treated from March 1993 to June 2000. Clinical manifestation and the results of spinal radiography, myelography, CT scanning, MR imaging, operative treatment were separately described.Results: Total tumor resection was performed in 57 patients, partial resection in 6 patients. The duration of follow-up was three months to five years. Excellent and good results were achievd of 89.6% in the patients.Conclusions: ①MR imaging is the initial diagnostic procedures used to spinal schwannomas.②Microsurgical operation may improve prognosis, especially to the patients tumor lie in cervical region or/and is massive.③The patients with spinal schwannomas have good prognosis. But to the patient tumor was found various places, the prognosis may be poor.
