Abstract

The microstructure and mechanical properties of welded joint of high strength weathering steel and austenitic stainless steelwere studied by using metal active gas(98%Ar+2%CO2) welding(MAG) process. The results show that, the mechanical properties of MAG welded joints can reach the strength of parent materials. The microstructure of high weather resistance steel is ferrite + a small amount of pearlite, whereas, stainless steel is austenite stainless steel for the whole, and the weld zone is austenite + fishbone ferrite. Furthermore, heat affected zone on the side of stainless steel is austenite + lath ferrite, and yet it is gathered into the ferrite + pearlite group for high weather resistant steel.
