Curative effects of metformin and rosiglitazone in treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome

Objective To investigate the curative effects of metformin,rosiglitazone,and the combination of metformin and rosiglitazone in treating insulin-resisting(IR) polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS).Methods 85 patients with PCOS concomitant with IR were randomly divided into group A,B and C.Group A(29 cases),group B(28 cases) and group C(28 cases) were treated with metformin,rosiglitazone and metformin combined with rosiglitazone,respectively.Patients' corrective indexes of the three groups were all observed after 5 months' treatment.Results The indexes of BMI,Homa IR,T and LH/FSH of groups A and C significantly declined(P 0.05).The Homa IR,T and LH/FSH of group B obviously reduced(P0.05) after therapy,but the BMI was not significantly decreased.The declined degree of BMI of group A compared with group C and the changes of T of group A and B compared with group C were not significantly different.However,the reduced degree of Homa IR and LH/FSH was obviously lower than that of groups A and B(P0.05).Conclusion Both metformin and rosiglitazone can improve the metabolic indexes of PCOS,but the combination of the two is more effective than any single one.
