Efficacy of oxycodone-acetaminophen as an adjuvant of opioid analgesics for cancer pain

Objective:To observe the efficacy and adverse effects of oxycodone-acetaminophen as an adjuvant of opioid analgesics. Methods:In a randomized and controlled trial,66 patients with cancer pain,who failed to respond to opioid analgesics,were enrolled and divided into two groups. The patients were treated with either combined with 1 tablet of oxycodone-acetaminophen every 6 h for 1 week (n=32),or with the increased doses of opioids by 30%~50% (n=34). Results:The response rate (100%) in oxycodone-acetaminophen group was similar to that of opioid group (97.1%,P0.05). The adverse effects of oxycodone-acetaminophen were low. Conclusion:Oxycodone-acetaminophen offers a satisfactory effect as an adjuvant of opioid analgesics,with lower adverse effects and better tolerance.
