Abstract
Objective:To study the role of mild hypothermia against neuronal apoptosis in rats with focal cerebral ischemia. Methods: Thirty clean-grade female rats were selected, and randomly divided into 3 groups: sham operation group and MCAO group and MCAO-mild hypothermia group.Model of focal ischemia was used by middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO).the rats were anesthetized and the brains were removed.Immunohistochemical analysis and TUNEL staining were used to detect expression of Bcl-2 protein and neuronal apoptosis. Results: There were no positive cells of Bcl-2 protein staining and neuronal apoptosis in the sham operation group. In MCAO-mild hypothermia group, numbers of neuronal apoptosis were significantly decreased, and expression of Bcl-2 protein was significantly increased compared with MCAO group. Conclusion: Mild hypothermia may alleviate cerebral ischemic partly by increasing expression of Bcl-2 protein and decreasing apoptosis.
