Abstract
In a base medium, iron(Ⅱ) reacts with thivioluric acid to form a blue complex with two absorption peaks at 658 nm and 384 nm with the apparent molar absorptivity of 2.42×104 L\5mol-1\5cm-1 and 4.18×104 L\5mol-1\5cm-1,respectively.And the absorbance(A658,A384,△A)are proportional to the concentration of iron(Ⅱ).Based on this fact,a new method for the determination of trace iron(Ⅱ) by spectrophotometry with thivioluric acid was established.Beer's law was obeyed for iron(Ⅱ) in the range of 0~50.0 μg/25mL.The method has been used to determine iron in water with satisfactory results.
