Abstract

Objective To evaluate left atrial function of patients with alcoholic cardiomyopathy(ACM) by using two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography(2D-STE).Methods Totally 31 male patients with ACM(ACM group) and 30 health male adults(control group) were examined, and conventional echocardiographic and 2D-STE parameters were obtained, including left atrial maximal volume(LAVmax),left atrial minimal volume(LAVmin),left atrial pre-atrial contraction volume(LAVp),passive left atrial ejection fraction(LAPEF),active left atrial ejection fraction(LAAEF),the global peak atrial longitudinal strain rate of systolic as well as early and late diastolic(GLSRs,GLSRe and GLSRa) of left atrum, etc. Results Compared with the control group,LAVmax,LAVp,LAVmin,LAAEF and GLSRa increased significantly, but LAPEF,GLSRs and GLSRe decreased significantly in ACM group(all P0.05).Conclusion 2D-STE could be used to effectively assess left atrial function in patients with alcoholic cardiomyopathy.
