Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the effects of Twin-block functional appliance on basal bone and dentition of juveniles with skeletal classⅡmalocclusion.Method:23 patients in growth with Angle Class Ⅱ malocclusion and mainly with mandibular retrognathia were investigated.Lateral cephalometric X-rays were taken and measured before and after treatment. The data were analyzed with Pancherz's cephalometric analysis.Result:Molar-relationship and overjet of the incisors were improved,Mandibular development was favorable after treatment. The change of Molar-relationship consisted of 51% skeletal factor and 49% dental factor; The change of overjet consisted of 66% skeletal factor and 34% dental factor.Conclusion:Twin-block functional appliance was effective in correcting Class II malocclusion, including the orthopedic and orthodontic effects.
