Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects on surgical induced astigmatism(SIA)in extracapsular cataract extraction(ECCE)and implantation of IOL with small scleral incision with suture and without suture. Methods 83 cases were divided into two groups, group with suture and group without suture. All patients were performed ECCE and implantation of IOL with 5 5 to 7 0 mm line scleral incision, and one suture in group with suture,no suture in group without suture. The uncorrected visual acuity(≥0 5),SIA and their axises were examined at one week, two weeks, one month, three months and six months after operation. Results There was no significant difference in UCVA between two groups during periods after operation( P 0 05),significant difference in SIA( P 0 05).There was no significant difference in SIA between one and six months after operation ( P 0 05)in group with suture, and significant difference in group without suture( P 0 05).There were no significant difference in corneal astigmatism between one month after operation and before operation and one month and six months after operation in group with suture( P 0 05),and significant difference in group without suture( P 0 05).Conclusions The method of scleral incision with one suture in ECCE and implantation with small scleral incision can reduced SIA and the refraction after operation were stable. The postoperative UCVA was as good as them of the method of without suture. This method increased the safety of incision.
