The Integration:Wang Shi-gu's Compendium of Chinese Landscape Painting in the Tang,Song,Yuan and Ming Dynasties

Wang Shi-gu pointed out that the drawing methods of the artists in Northern Song and Yuan Dynas- ties could not mix with those in the Southern Song Dynasty;those in the Southern Song Dynasty could not mix with those in the Yuan Dynasty.Whereas the paintings in the Northern Song Dynasty could mix with the paint- ing methods in the Yuan Dynasty;paintings in both Southern Song and Yuang Dynasties could mix with those in the Northern Song Dynasty.Wang's scientific viewpoint of painting history was based on his overall aware- ness and understanding of the painting history.He greatly benefited from the copies of large number of ancient paintings.His tracing objects ranged to the masters of the Southern and Northern Song Dynasties and got inte- gration.It was the reason why he could synthesize the ancient painting methods but never be bounded up by the ancient people.
