Abstract

Objective:To explore the surface electromyography(EMG) characteristics of biceps brachii and quadriceps in children with spastic diplegia. Methods:40 children with spastic diplegia and 30 healthy children were involved as the observation group and control group in this study. The electromyographic signals of biceps brachii and quadriceps in different positions were collected. The EMG apparatus and Ag/Agcl electrodes were used. Results:In relaxing and functional position, the root mean square(RMS) and the integrated EMG(iEMG) in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P0.05);while when the muscles contracted initiatively, the RMS and iEMG in healthy subjects were much higher than those in children with spastic diplegia (P0.05). Conclusion:The abnormality in surface electromyogram signal of biceps brachii and quadriceps of children with spastic diplegia.Electromyographic analysis could provide a satisfactory evaluation of the muscle function in children with spastic cerebral palsy.
