Abstract
Objective To ascertain the associations between the circadian rhythm of blood pressure and target organ damage in aged patients with essential hypertension(EH).Methods The 135 patients(≥60 years old) with hypertension were selected for ambulatory blood pressure monitoring of 24 h.interventricular septum(IVS) and left ventricular posterior wall(LVPW) were measured by echocardiography.24 hour total urine protein was also measured.Results Non-dipper BP was 59 cases(43.70%) and dipper BP was 76 cases(56.30%) by ABPM monitoring.SBP and DBP of 24 h and night,IVS,LVPW and 24 hour total urine protein were higher in non-dipper group than those of dipper group(P0.05).Conclusion The circadian rhythm of blood pressure might be abnormal in aged EH patients more than 40% and the occurrence of left ventricular hypertrophy and urine protein significantly increase in non-dipper EH patients.
