On the Different Meanings of English and Chinese Color Words

Abstract

Chinese and English cultures are different in traditions,folk customs and thinking modes.Therefore,the symbolic meanings of color words used to describe people and things certainly differ in Chinese and English cultures.From a perspective of cultural differences,the paper explores into the different symbolic meanings of Chinese and English color words,hoping to help English learners in China avoid misunderstandings of English color words,accurately understand color words,phrases and sentences,and promote cross-culture communication.
