Abstract

Objective To evaluate the method of culturing Tubercle Bacilli rapidly with liquid culture medium. Methods The sputum specimens were inoculated on the different mediums. The colorimetric liquid medium was evaluated and compared with the modified acid Lowenstein-Jesen(L-J) medium in parallel. Results 911 sputum specimens were evaluated. The rate of smear-positive specimens was 29.1%. The culture positive rate of 43.4% with liquid culture medium was slightly higher than that of 40.1% with L-J medium. By the liquid culture medium and the modified acid L-J medium, the mean time of detecting Tubercle Bacilli in smear-positive specimens was respectively 6 and 18 days, the mean time of detecting Tubercle Bacilli in smear-negative specimens was respectively 15 and 28 days. And the rate of contamination was respectively 2.7% and 2.1%.Conclusion It has the quick, simple, convenient, reliable and practical advantages for the liquid culture medium to culture Tubercle Bacilli.
