Studies on benthic ecology in Zhejiang coastal waters

Abstract

The composition of benthos species,benthic distribution of biomass and density,and community structure were investigated in the coastal waters off Zhejiang Province from April to May in 2003.A total of 126 species of benthos have been identified and most of them are crustacean and mollusca(51.6%).The totally averaged benthic biomass is 18.74 g/m~2.The totally averaged density is 89.11 ind/m~2.Benthos in this area can be classified into seven types by their ecological characters.According to index of community structure,70% of the area has a lower diversity index(H′).
