Study on Heritage Tourism Abroad in the Last Decade

Heritage tourism is always one of the hot topics in foreign tourism research.The English periodical magazines Annals of Tourism Research which has the influence in the tourism academic circles has collected 33 literatures about heritage tourism in the last ten years(1995-2004).This article attempts to summarize the meaning of heritage tourism from the demand and requirement of it as well as the classification of the heritage.The author finds out three focal problems in the literatures,that is,heritage authenticity,heritage protection and the global-local nexus in heritage tourism.Of these researches in the literatures,we can find two enlightenments to heritage tourism development in China,one is to recognize correctly the relation of heritage resource exploiting and heritage protection,the other is to build up effective heritage resource management modes in order to promote sustainable development of heritage tourism.
