Abstract
Objective To evaluate the performance of BACTEC Plus Aerobic/F and Plus Anaerobic/F medium for recovery of pathogenic microorganisms from adult patients. Methods All blood cultures were performed by the BACTEC 9120 System with paired Plus Aerobic/F and Plus Anaerobic/F Blood Culture bottles according to the protocol. The overall recovery of organisms and time to detect were analyzed retrospectively. Results 141 clinically important isolates were recovered from 138(250 bottles)patients with positive blood culture,of these isolates,126 of 141 isolates were recovered from Plus Aerobic/F and 122 of 141 isolates were recovered from Plus Anaerobic/F bottles. On the other hand,107 were recovered from both pairs of bottles, with 19 recovered from only Plus Aerobic/F bottles and 15 recovered from only Plus Anaerobic/F.Conclusion Plus Anaerobic/F bottles enhanced recovery of pathogenic microorganisms from patients.the combination of Plus Aerobic/F and Plus Anaerobic/F bottles showed better recovery than either of Plus Aerobic/F or plus Anaerobic/F bottles.
