Abstract

A concept of geosynchronous synthetic aperture radar(SAR) is presented in this paper for the increasing requirements of the timely global observation and urgent requests for fast reaction to burst events.Through the analysis of motive paths of geosynchronous satellite,the method for obtaining relative motions between geosynchronous satellite and the ground by means of controlling orbit inclination,eccentricity and radius error is verified.This forms the basis for implementing SAR imaging when radar operates on the geosynchronous orbit.Moreover,observational performance of geosynchronous SAR satellite is studied and analyzed.The adoption of geosynchronous SAR is an ideal technical approach for short repetitive observation period and real-time applications especially for large-area spot and continuous observation.
