Abstract

Objective:To access the morphological changes of coronary sinus(CS)and left atrium in patients with atrial fibrillation(AF)by multislice spiral computed tomography(MSCT).Methods:MSCT was conducted to image CS and left atrium in two groups.AF group,50 patients with AF including 20 females in the average age of 50.5±13.0 years old;Control group,50 normal subjects including 23 female in theaverage of age 53.6±13.0 years old.The diameters and areas of superoinferior and anteroposterior were measured at the coronary sinus ostium;1 cm and 2 cm from coronary sinus ostium, respectively. The corresponding diameters of superoinferior and anteroposterior of the left atrium were also measured. The morphology of CS was classified into 2 types:tubular shape(the difference between coronary sinus ostium area and 1 cm from coronary sinus ostium area 50%);and funnel shape(the difference between coronary sinus ostium area and 1 cm from coronary sinus ostium area ≥50%).Results:The Parameters measured with MSCT were significantly higher in AF group than that in control group. The anteroposterior diameter of the coronary sinus ostium:(13±2)mm vs(11±3)mm,P=0.01;superoinferior:(19±7)mm vs(16±8)mm,P=0.05.The anteroposterior diameter at 1 cm from coronary sinus ostium:(11±5)mm vs(11±1)mm,P=0.03;superoinferior:(15±1)mm vs(13±2)mm,P0.01.The anteroposterior diameter of left atrium:(53±4)mm vs(44±5)mm,P0.01;superoinferior:(45±4)mm vs(31±7)mm,P=0.04.Conclusion:Morphological remodeling of coronary sinus and left atrium happened in AF patients, there was no difference of CS type between AF group and control group. The tubular type of coronary sinus was in majority(82%).
