Comparative Study on Three Different Types Repair of Inguinal Hernias

Objective:To detective the effiectiveness of ingunial hernia treated by UHS on comparative analysis versus other ingunial hernia repair method.Methods:A retrospective study were conducted to analyze the clinical data of the patients who underwent three types hernia repair in our hospital from 1997 to 2010.A total of 600 patients were enrolled in this study including 200 cases by using Bassini hernia repair(Group A),200 cases by using mesh-plug hernia repair(Group B),and 200 cases by using UHS hernia repair(Group C).To evaluated the effiectiveness on the three groups by comparing their operation time,in bed time,hospital stay,the early complication rate,recurrence rate,the incidence of foreign body sensation and the pain score(VAS).Results:The patients in Group A used more operation time,in bed time and hospital stay than the others(P 0.05),but there was no significant difference between the Group B and the Group C.The patients in Group A had a much higher the early complication and recurrence rate than Group B and Group C(P 0.05),but no statistical difference was found between the Group B and the Group C.The patients in Group A would have no foreign body sensation.The incidence of foreign body sensation in Group C lower than that in Group B(P 0.05).The pain score showed the patients in Group B and Group C suffered less pain than Group A on 1st day postoperatively to 6 month follow-up(P 0.05).The VAS was no significant difference between the Group B and the Group C on 1st day postoperatively.But the patients of Group C suffered milder pain when compared to Group B on 1 to 6 month follow-up(P 0.05).Conclusions:The application of UHS in the repair of ingunial hernia was feasible and safe,effectively reduced postoperative discomfort,which seem to be better than the Bassini hernia repair and the mesh-plug hernia repair.
