On the Root Causes for Gu Hongming's Translation of the Confucian Classics from the Perspective of Personality Orientation

Gu Hongming,a scholar of Qing dynasty,was well-known for his great contributions to the introduction of Chinese traditional culture into the West.Through an analysis of Gu's personality orientation from the following three aspects: world outlook,motivation and ideal,this paper attempts to explore the root causes for Gu's translation of the Chinese Confucian classics against the social background of westernization,which can promote the study on the subjectivity of the translator.
