Effects of Supportive Psychotherapy on Depression of Nasopharygeal Carcinoma Patients

Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of supportive psychotherapy on the depression of nasopharygeal carcinoma patients and on their life quality including compliance with the cure of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in-phase.Methods Ninety-six patients with nasopharygeal carcinoma were divided into supportive psychotherapy group and non supportive-psychotherapy group.The scores of SDS and SF-36 quality of life questionnaire were evaluated between the two groups.Results The score of SDS of the supportive psychotherapy group were significantly lower than that of the control group(P0.01),while the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire scores were significantly better in the supportive psychotherapy group than in the control group,not including that of physiological function(P0.05,or P0.01).Conclusion Supportive psychotherapy could obviously decrease the degree of depression and improve the quality on their life of nasopharygeal carcinoma.Supportive psychotherapy could help nasopharygeal carcinoma patients accomplish cure of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in-phase.
