Abstract

Objective The aim was to study the effect of the benzene exposure and intoxication on the conduction velocity of peripheral nerves.[Methods] 27 observation subjects and patients with bonzene poisoning as a case group and 48 normal persons as a control group were examined. The conduction velocity of peripheral nerves was examined by electromyography.[Results] The sensory conduction velocity(SCV) of ulnar nerve and peroneal nerve is much slower,and the distal latency of median nerve is also longer in case group compared with control group(P0.05). [Conclusion] Benzene is harmful to peripheral nerve system. The sensory conduction velocity(SCV) is more valuable than the motorial conduction velocity(MCV) in revealing harmful effect of benzene on poripheral nerves.
