Abstract

The traditional Chinese culture embodies rich concepts of harmony and various images of a harmonious society.In particular,Confucianism and Taoism abound with exploration and pursuits of harmony. The doctrine of mean proposed by Confucius in pre-Qin period, harmonious human relations raised by Mencius, harmony between man and nature put forward by Tung Chung-shu,another Confucian scholar, a small country with few inhabitants held by Lao-tse,the originator of Taoism,the thought of people first of Jixia Taoism,Zhuangzi's freedom pursuit of harmony among heaven,human and mind,and other precious thoughts constitute the ideological origins of today's theory of building a harmonious society.
