Abstract

The effect of filter-pressing on anaerobic fermentation in different parts of water hyacinth was studied by batch model. The results indicated that the biogas production of pressing residues of all parts of water hyacinth was improved significantly.TS biogas production of the residues of water hyacinth, root and stem was 271.93 ml·g-1,87.29 ml·g-1 and 330.83 ml·g-1,and was improved by 75.33%,92.04% and 72.95% respectively compared with unfilter-pressing treatments. There was no significant difference in pH and volatile fatty acid concentration between filter-pressing and unfilter-pressing treatments. The biotransformation rate of press filtrate of all parts of water hyacinth was very low and not suitable for biogas production. Therefore, anaerobic fermentation with filter-pressing stem of water hyacinth is a feasible process.
