Abstract

It is often thought that Wang Wei is the first man who initiated Zen painting in the history of Chinese-drawing.With Wang Wei practicing the Zen rules,the philosophy of Zen and the sense of painting fuse into his landscape masterpieces which are characterized by strong brushstrokes contrasted with light ink washes and offer us a sense of silence.These masterpieces highlight how Wang Wei experienced Zen and opens up very beautiful and profound aesthetic realm.They have reached the extremity of the combination of verse and painting and embodied the style of emptiness and delicacy.Wang Wei's Zen painting initiates the landscape arts in Tang Dynasty and has a widespread and great influence on the painting later.The article demonstrates the relationships between Wang Wei and Zen,explains the definition and origin of Zen-drawing,analyzes the reason why Wang Wei is thought as the originator of Zen painting.It also deduces the style of Wang Wei's Zen painting and illustrates influences of Wang Wei's Zen painting on our offspring.
