Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the innervation of transverse and ascending parts of the trapezius muscle from the cervical plexus. Methods: 73 patients who underwent neck dissection were included.18 patients preserved both accessory nerve and the cervical branches,11 preserved accessory nerve,17 preserved cervical branches and 27 sacrificed both of them. All patients were assessed subjectively at 2 weeks,6 months,12 months and 24 months after operation, using a questionnaire and an electromyograghy method. Results: The function of the transverse and ascending parts of the trapezius muscle of the patients who preserved cervical branches was not worse than the men who preserved accessory nerve. Conclusion: C3,C4 contributions innervated the transverse and ascending parts of the trapezius muscle independently.
