Abstract
Motivation plays an important role in the process of second language acquisition. According to its function, motivation can be divided into two categories, integrative motivation vs. instrumental motivation, and intrinsic motivation vs. extrinsic motivation. Concerning these two groups of motivations, integrative motivation and intrinsic motivation are more widely used in English teaching, and exert more farreaching influence on the English learners. As a consequence, during the college English teaching process, the English teachers should guide the motivation theory correctly, which can make college students learn English more effectively.
