Investigation on Infection of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Among Patients with Tuberculosis

Objective To study HIV infection among inpatients with tuberculosis in Changsha Central Hospital,and to understand the infection and incidence of HIV and the epidemiological features among patients with tuberculosis in local area.Methods Preliminary screening of HIV antibody was carried out in 564 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis by ELISA;and positive samples were further confirmed by using western blotting method in HIV Detection Center,Hunan Provincial Cen-ter for Disease Control and Prevention.Results There were 4 positive cases of HIV in 564 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis,3 males and 1 female,with the total positive rate of 0.71%.In the positive cases of HIV,1 case was infected by intravenous drug injection and the other 3 ones by heterosexual behavior.Conclusions The infection rate of HIV among patients with tuberculosis is higher than that of the national reference(0.05%).Medical professionals of prevention and cure for tuberculosis should pay more attention on co-infection of HIV and tuberculosis.
