The investigations and evaluation on the water quality and eutrophication status of 132 reservoirs in Guangdong province reveal that the water quality is good in genera) while a majority of the reservoire are in mesotropher to eulropher status. The major factors causing reservoir eutrophication are more serious non-point sources pollution, rapid increase in sewage discharging, reservoir sedimentation resulting from soil erosion and decrease in reservoir storage. The countermeasures against reservoir eutrophication include reducing non-point sources pollutant, raising the rate of sewage treatment, controlling soil erosion, increasing reservoir storage and removing algae.
