Abstract

Aim: To observe the form and distribution of protein kinase C (PKC)positive cells in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus formation of rats,It will provide a morphological base for further studying PKC physiological function in the central nervous system. Methods: The distribution of the PKC positive cells in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus formation was studied by immunnohistochemical method. Results: Most bodies of PKC positive cells are small and oval, minor are triangular,and the processes are short.The PKC positive cells were mainly distributed in the II,III and IV layers of the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe and occipital lobe of the cerebral cortex. Amygdalohippocampal transition area and amygdalopiriform transition area also are found, So are the granular layer of dentate gyrus and the subiculum, the pyramidal and radiation layers of the CA1 region in the hippocampus formation. Conclusion: PKC positive cells are widely distributed in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus formation. 
