Abstract
Karyotype analysis was carried out on chicken-quail hybrids using the embryo and the peripheral lymphocyte culture techniques. The result showed that the chicken-quail hybrids had a diploid number of 78.But their positions of centromere of macrochromosomes were different from each other.NO.1 chromosome was metacentric, while that of quail was submetacentric.NO.4 chromosome was submetacentric, while that of quail was subtelocentric.Besides,NO.6 and NO.8 chromosome of chicken were submetacentric, and metacentric, respectively, whereas those of quail were all telocentric.Since the karyotypes between chicken and quail had these differences, their hybrids could not propagate.
