Abstract

Nitrogen is removed from the synthetic wastewater by simultaneous nitrification and denitrification via nitrite by controlling sludge age in the sequencing batch reactor(SBR).The effects of different COD: nitrogen ratios on nitrogen removal by simultaneous nitrification and denitrification via nitrite are investigated. The results of the experiment show that when the sludge age,pH and DO were optimal, the removal rate of COD,NH+4-N and TN reached 90%~95%,99% and 90%~95% respectively on condition that the COD: nitrogen ratio is 6.5.In conclusion, the results of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification via nitrite would be good by making the COD: nitrogen in sewage optimal when the sludge age is optimal in the reactor.
