Abstract
In accordance with the characteristics of the overbank flood,a scheme for improving the secondary suspended river of the lower Yellow River is put forward herein,and then a simulative study is made on the improvement scheme based on the movable-bed model test. The result shows that the control of the overbank of flood can effectively alleviate the evolution of the secondary suspended river,enlarge the accumulated sediment erosion of the main channel,reduce the inundated area of flood plain and improve the transverse gradient of river channel. If a major overbank flood is encountered along the Lower Yellow River,the flood with the process of the maximum peak flow less than 10 000 m3/ s can be discharged under the condition of the controlled overbank of the flood.
