Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the caries-preventive effects of pit and fissure sealant for children first permanent molars.METHODS 184 children for oral examination in the dental clinic of our hospital were selected from February 2008 to May 2009.Accordance with the different sides of the same name, the first permanent molars was divided into two groups. One side of the first permanent molars was pit and fissure sealant as experimental group.Other side of the first permanent molars was as control group. We compared and analyze the different follow-up time of the two groups of dental caries, and the lifetime of the experimental group sealers and secondary caries incidence.RESULTS Compared with control group, the dental caries rates of experimental group children were decreased at the time of followed-up for 0.5 years,1 year,2 years and 3 years, and there was statistically significant difference(P﹤0.05).Retention rate of sealers of the children in the experimental group at 6 months was 95.65%,1 year was 93.75%,2 years was 90.57%,and 3 years was 87.50%.Secondary caries rate at 6 months was 1.09%,1 year was 3.13%,2 years was 5.80%,and 3 years was 8.33%.CONCLUSION Pit and fissure sealant could be as effective measures to prevent dental caries, and can significantly reduce the incidence of dental caries. It is worthy of further promotion of clinical application.
