Abstract

With ear effusion and conductive deafness as the main feature, secretory otitis media(SOM) is a common disease of otolaryngology.SOM is the middle ear non-suppurative inflammation. In recent years,a large number of clinical studies have shown that the formation of SOM is due to the eustachian tube dysfunction, poor pneumatization of mastoid, infection, allergy, cytokines and other factors. The pathogenesis of the SOM induced by nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) and radiotherapy is more complex and the prognosis is poor. Here is to make a review on the main pathogenesis and treatment of the SOM induced by NPC and radiotherapy in recent years.
