Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between blood pressure variability (BPV) and hypertensive renal damage.Methods 52 patients and 20 healthy subjects were observed by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM),with the standard deviation (s) from mean blood pressure as the index of BPV. Meanwhile,β 2 microglobulin (β 2 MG) content in urine was detected by radioimmunoassay as the index of renal damage.Results The indexes of BPV in study groups was significantly higher than that in control group (P0.05 or P0.01). The indexes of BPV of 24 hour systolic blood pressure (24 hSS) and day time systolic blood pressure (dSS) were closely correlated to β 2 MG (P0.001).Conclusion The BPV of hypertensive patients is significantly higher than that of healthy subjects. The BPV of hypertensive patients is closely correlated to hypertensive renal damage.
