Abstract

W.V.Quine and H.Putnam gave a new argument for mathematical realism based on the indispensable applicability of mathematics in science.Their argument led to a debate between mathematical realism and nominalism for it.As a result many valuable achievements have been obtained and many profound philosophical problems have been raised.All of them have important significances for the research on the relationship between mathematics and science.
