Abstract
At the turn of the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Jesuits came to China to disseminate their Christianity, together with their culture, science and technology and even scientific methodology. The history of 'introducing the Western Learning to the East' roused a great interest in people, while western science and philosophy attracted much more attention than the Chinese Language studies. The spelling of Chinese characters using letters invented by priests such as Matteo Ricci and Tringault had triggered the phoneticization trend in China. And their scientific approaches contribute to the modernization of research, and inspire us to further explore the nature of cross-cultural communication.
