Abstract
Objective To evaluate the characteristics of serum M protein in patients with multiple myeloma and study the application of immunofixation electrophoresis in typing M protein.Methods Serum immunofixation electrophoresis was performed in 39 sera samples with abnormal serum electrophoresis.Serum proteins and immunoglobulins indicated in the assay were analyzed.Results Of all the patients,there were 9 cases of IgGк,11 IgGλ,5 IgAк,6 IgAλ,2 IgMλand 6 light chains.Serum total protein increased in 20 samples,globulin level also increased in 24 cases.Immunoglobulin and light chain of the same type increased meanwhile,and followed by abnormality of other components.Conclusion Serum immunofixation electrophoresis shows excellent high sensitivity and specificity in the determination and classification of multiple myeloma,and can be used in diagnosing multiple myeloma and typing M protein.
