Abstract

A new kinetic fluorimetric method for the determination of citric acid is proposed. The method is based on the inhibitory effect of citric acid on the oxidation of pyronine Y hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by Fe(Ⅲ) in perchloric acid solution. The linear range of the determination is 0.12~2.4 μg/mL. The detection limit for citric acid is 0.05 μg/mL. This method was used to determine citric acid in carbonated water.
