The Comparison of Consumption Behaviors Between Urban and Rural Inhabitants in Fujian Province

In term of level of consumption and consumption pattern, the author analyses the difference between urban and rural population in Fujian province. The study shows that the gap in level of consumption between urban and rural population in Fujian is narrowed compared with that of the nation and even the average disparity of coastal provinces in the eastern part of China and that the gap between the rich and the poor is controlled relatively well in Fujian province. Farmers are relatively better-off and Engel coefficients of the city and village both entered 50% in 2000 in Fujian. Though there are some differences in the deposit and the expense tendency between urban and rural inhabitants, the consumption pattern in rural areas has changed a lot.
